Welcome to the Taman Bebek, a Legacy Property and artist’s getaway in Sayan since 1929.
Originally the home of American ethnomusicologist Colin McPhee, later that of Bali lover, landscape artist, and writer Made Wijaya. When Made Wijaya acquired the land, the foundations of Colin McPhee's 1930s houses remained – the view, however, was still magnificent and unspoiled. And in 1980 Taman Bebek was reconstructed following the original layout and designs of Colin McPhee. It’s been over 90 years since this magical property started hosting iconoclasts and travelers, influencing the international Arts for nearly a century now.
Stay with Us
Following Colin McPhee’s compound layout the late Made Wijaya, Bali’s legendary designer, created the property offering traditionally fused accommodations that hark back to the prewar heyday of the Ubud art colony. Every room is unique, finished with Wijaya’s heart-lifting blend of classic tropical design and enlightened whimsy, with handcarved furniture and fabrics in vibrant colors you’ve never seen before. Just beyond the visitor’s terrace or balcony beckons a lush riot of a tropical garden, artfully orchestrated to guide the eye to the natural masterpiece of the gorge.
Our view of Bali
The beauty of Bali has been elaborately crafted through centuries. This tropical delight can be lived at Taman Bebek. However, we invite our guests to look deeper than the natural beauty that awes us every day from the swimming pool and take the time to experience the culture that has co-evolved with this landscape. Such harmony is not by chance. Balinese cosmovision is one of infinite depth, elaborated designs, and ancient wisdom. Taman Bebek is and has been now for over 90 years the perfect place for visitors to immerse themselves in the Balinese culture.
