Our view on Bali. Challenged by Bali’s current over-development.
Bali’s unique ecosystem is captured at Taman Bebek like in no other place in Bali. The rice terraces, coconut fields, Banyan forest, volcanoes and twirling river make a bed for the sleepy sun that sets off every day by the pool. This perfect view is a reminder of the beauty of Bali that has attracted wanderers from far away for centuries and given way to dreamers and writers to describe the island as a Heaven on Earth, the Lost Paradise, the Island of Gods. Such beauty would not be achieved without a culture that takes care of such an ecosystem, with balance, this harmony-seeking culture's purpose is to maintain a balance between humans, Nature, and Gods. An increasing challenge in modern times.
The last 50 years have been harsh on Bali’s natural ecosystem and the local culture. In particular mass tourism over the last decades has impacted the island’s resources in ways that are bringing this vulnerable balance to its braking point.
Without more thoughtful tourism, harmony will be broken and all those involved in maintaining it will struggle to restore it once tourism has moved somewhere else. At Taman Bebek, we invite our guests to look at the view and reflect on the relationship between the beauty of the scenery and the culture that has made it the way it is, while you listen to the Gamelan that plays in the air, seek the elegance of every gesture of the people of Bali and take the time to think of the ways you can contribute to the future of Bali, maybe start by picking your adventure into the island with this in mind; You can immerse yourself in the vast culture that has created this heaven, or ride over it on a Canggu modified motorbike, it’s your call. But for the sake of those who will come after us and hopefully enjoy this same view a hundred years from now, try to leave an impact, not a trace. Start by remembering the beauty of the true Bali, revalue what is important, and invest in tourism that builds resilience, not dependancy. Read our History.
